Here are the top stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

  1. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. today at the new
Lakeside Nutrition, 426 Avon Belden Rd
. It's the “newest” business in Avon Lake’s Towne Center. According to a press release, "You may have been getting protein shakes and iced teas from Lakeside Nutrition in Towne Center for the last couple years, but the Lakeside Nutrition opening there today is new and different, despite the same name. “Lakeside Nutrition is a Health & Wellness Hub that serves fresh juices, fruit smoothies, meal replacement shakes, protein shakes, nutrition bowls and more!” says new owner Lettoya Soler. “Our menu is not limited to what we serve, we also provide nutrition education courses by certified professionals, on-going body transformation challenges, 1:1 coaching services and more!” The former owner of Lakeside Nutrition contacted Soler in January to ask if she was interested in the opportunity to take over the business.
  2. The Avon Democratic Club (ADC) will host a fundraising event on July 8, at Lake Erie Crusher’s Stadium at 2009 Baseball Boulevard in Avon. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available through the website. All are invited to cheer on the Crushers as they play the Gateway Grizzlies from East St. Louis. Fireworks will follow the game. (Avon Democrats)
  3. Making it easier, faster and more convenient to renew vehicle registrations and license plate stickers, an Ohio BMV pilot program that offers kiosks for these needs is now permanent and expanding, with several new locations being added across Northeast Ohio. According to a Cleveland.com article, "the “Ohio BMV Express” kiosks were introduced in October and have since become very popular, said BMV Registrar Charlie Norman. The program has grown from nine to 18 kiosks, and they’re averaging 1,500 transactions per week." The kiosks renew and print vehicle registrations and license-plate stickers. (cleveland.com)
