New Law Director Should Feel Right At Home on Council

New , Abe Lieberman, should feel right at home. The Stumphauzer O’Toole attorney was appointed by to serve as the city’s law director. He will replace Bill Kerner, who was the law directory under former mayor K.C. Zuber.

Lieberman is not without municipal law experience. He has served as the assistant law director for Amherst for 12 years and has assisted Tim Stumphauzer in Stumphauzer’s capacity as the law director for Vermilion.

“I guess you could say I’m unofficial assistant law director for Vermilion; I’ve done work for Tim Stumphauzer in that capacity,” Lieberman said.

Lieberman said although he could function as the assistant law director of Amherst and as the law director for Avon Lake, but he’s opted not to.

“Although I could legally hold both offices, I have resigned my position as Amherst Assistant Law Director because of the scheduling conflicts,” Lieberman, a 25-year resident of Avon Lake said.

Lieberman is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University (B.S. in physics, with honors, 1972) and the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1976).

He was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1976.

According to the Stumphauzer O’Toole website, his practice is a general civil practice, with concentration in the real estate law, municipal law, business and corporate law and civil litigation.

He has experience in numerous areas including commercial leasing, real estate tax complaints, easements  and zoning matters.  

He is a past member of the Civil Service Commission of Avon Lake and is also a member of the Board of Directors of LifeShare Community Blood Services. He has also been president, vice president and a director of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club and a Trustee of the Avon Lake Woodlands Homeowners' Association.
