New Principal Coming To Avon Lake High

The district is poised to hire Michael May as the next principal of Avon Lake High School.

AVON LAKE, OH β€” Michael May is set to become the next Avon Lake High School principal. The district board of education will vote on offering him a three-year contract on March 10.

May is currently the director of personnel for the Maple Heights City Schools. He has held that position for two years. He was previously the principal for Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, assistant principal at Westlake High School and an assistant principal at Vermilion High School.

β€œI am excited to work with the administration, high school staff and students,” said May. β€œI hope to continue to build on the school’s high achievement in education, arts, acts of service and athletics while building a collaborative, positive culture. Avon Lake is an outstanding, supportive, community and the school district is one of the best in Ohio. I am proud to now be a part of this excellence."

May earned degrees in history from Fairleigh Dickinson University and York College of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the York College of Pennsylvania's men's basketball team and was a team captain his senior year. He then earned his second master's degree at Wilmington University in Delaware. He also holds a superintendent's certification.

May's teaching career started in New Jersey before he moved to Cleveland. He began work in Northeast Ohio as a Social Studies teacher in Amherst. He also coached high school baseball in Amherst and New Jersey.

May now lives in Amherst with his wife, Jessica, and their two young children Ethan and Bryn.
