New York Talent Scout Coming To Avon Lake

The man who counts Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Jessica Parker among his proteges is going to give a talk at the high school.

AVON LAKE, OH — For the second year in a row, Peter Sklar will return to Avon Lake to talk with students and parents about achieving success in any field. Sklar is a New York-based talent scout who claims television and film stars Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker and others as proteges.

Sklar's presentation will be held Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Dr. Daniel B. Ross Performing Arts Center at Avon Lake High School, 175 Avon Belden Rd. The event is open to children and adults older than 7. Kids under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Children 7 and under will not be allowed into the presentation, regardless of a parent's presence. There is no admission fee for the event. Guests will be asked to RSVP by emailing patricia.frank@avonlakecityschools.org.

The presentation at Avon Lake High will be called "What's Your Real?" During the session, he'll argue that two of the keys to success, in any field, are self-image and health. “The people who sit behind the table are trying to decide two things: do they like you, and do they believe you,” Sklar tells young audiences. “If you don’t feel good mentally and physically, you won’t open up and show us who you really are. When that happens- no matter how smart you are, or what you’ve achieved, or what you look like- we’ve already lost interest.”

Furthermore, he notes that successful children, students with good grades and traditional high achievements, are increasingly engaging in destructive behavior. “The kids I interview are the smartest and most talented- the highest achievers in the nation,” proclaims Sklar. “And they’re too often the most unhappy, unhealthy, and least employable.”
His speech will explore why happiness are just as important, if not more so, than other forms of success.
