Obama or George Washington: Who Do You Believe?

To the Editor:

Recently we learned the United States Department of Justice, which is under the direction of President Obama, secretly seized the phone records in the New York and Washington DC offices of the world’s oldest and biggest news gathering organization, the Associated Press. The United States Department of Justice also secretly seized the home and cell phone records of several reporters and editors of the Associated Press.

We also recently learned the Internal Revenue Service, IRS, a department of the United States Treasury, which is under the direction of President Obama, abused their power. The IRS specifically targeted and singled out conservative groups for scrutiny. Their crime was having the word “Patriot” of “Constitution” in the name of their organization.

At the commencement address at The Ohio State University, President Obama called on the graduates to reject the voices of those who fear a tyrannical and sinister federal government. Contrast that to the words of our first President George Washington who said, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquence.  It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

I choose to believe George Washington. Whom do you believe?
