Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:
- In response to the increasing number of pedestrian-involved traffic accidents, Governor Mike DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will invest $51M for new safety projects across the state, including $1.1M for improvements along US-6 in Avon Lake. Fatal crashes involving pedestrians and roadway exists hit their highest levels in 2021, said the ODOT. DeWine stated that he believes that distracted driving is contributing to the problem. - Lorain County residents voted no to Issue 7, a proposed hotel bed tax increase, and cast 7,641 votes or 30 percent for JD Vance, the Republican nominee to replace Cincinnati Republican Rob Portman. The three percent hotel lodging tax would benefit the county's plan for a convention center at Midway Mall. (Chronicle Telegram)
