Ohio Man Accused Of Throwing Fire Extinguisher Through BMV Window

Avon Lake police said a man became "irate" while at the BMV and destroyed a window before fleeing.

AVON LAKE, OH — A Northeast Ohio man is accused of throwing a fire extinguisher through the window of a BMV last week, according to Avon Lake police.

On Sept. 30, a 33-year-old man became "irate" while at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles location on Walker Road. He then picked up a fire extinguisher and threw it through a window, police said.

After destroying the window, the man ran out of the building and drove off in a white SUV, police said. The man was stopped on Lake Road and then taken into custody.

The man faces charges of criminal damaging and menacing. He made his first appearance in court on Tuesday.

The man has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His attorney declined to comment for this story.
