One Person Dead After Falling 50-Feet In Elyria

The man reportedly fell over a cliff near the Black River. Another person was with the man and had to be rescued by fire crews.

ELYRIA, OH — Two people were pulled from an embankment near the Black River on Tuesday evening. One of the rescued people has died, the other has been hospitalized, according to reports.

Firefighters discovered that two people were trapped at the bottom of a 50-foot river embankment on Tuesday night, Fox 8 reported. Crews had to rappel down the cliffside to reach the victims. The survivor, a woman, had to be lifted out of the embankment in a safety harness.

The woman was then reportedly treated by emergency services on the scene before being taken to a hospital. The deceased man was placed in an Elyria Fire Department boat and taken to shore. His body was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The man had reportedly been in the water for two hours, the Chronicle Telegram said.

The two people reportedly got trapped in the embankment after the man went over a cliff while riding a lawn mower, the Chronicle Telegram reported. A tractor and trailer were found in the water, near the victims.
