Police Investigating Thefts On Avon Lake Street
Two elderly residents let a woman into their homes. The residents then discovered they were missing cash.
AVON LAKE, OH — Police are investigating a pair of thefts that happened on the same day on Community Drive. An unidentified woman managed to get into two homes and then steal cash before slipping away, police records said. Investigators believe the thefts are connected.
On August 14, a Community Drive resident invited a woman she did not know inside her home. After the woman left, the resident discovered that approximately $300, in cash, was missing. Police searched the area but did not find the woman. Detectives are still investigating the incident.
That same day, an 88-year-old Community Drive resident was unloading groceries from her car. While trying to get all the groceries out, a woman approached the resident and offered to help carry the food.

The woman helped move the groceries inside and then asked to use the bathroom. She used the restroom and then left, according to police records.
After the woman left, the resident checked her purse and discovered cash was missing.

The woman appeared to be a home aide worker, the resident told police, according to records.
The two thefts on Community Drive happened within one hour, police records said.
