Prowlers Steal Wallet From Unlocked Avon Lake Car: Police

Police said a man's wallet was stolen from his car on Canterbury Road last week.

AVON LAKE, OH — Prowlers managed to get into an unlocked car in Avon Lake and steal a resident's wallet, according to police reports.

Police suspect the theft happened at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, according to police reports obtained by Patch. Four credit cards were inside the man's wallet, police said.

Some of the credit cards were used at stores in the Cleveland area. The resident told police he forgot to lock his car overnight.

The theft happened on Canterbury Road, police said.

Crimes of opportunity tend to spike as the weather warms. Police departments across Northeast Ohio noted that prowlers will check cars parked outside to see if they're unlocked. Residents shouldn't leave valuables in their vehicles overnight, or during any extended absence from their car.
