Retiring Fire Chief Honored By City

Bill Morris served 36 years in the Avon Lake Fire Department

Avon Lake Council honored William Morris, who retired from service on Dec. 18 after 36 years in the department.

Morris started his career as a firefighter in December 1975, receiving promotions to lieutenant in 2001 and fire chief in April of 2006.

Morris also served as a the firefighters’ union president for 10 years and was involved with the first contract between Avon lake and the firefighters local.

Morris, who was replaced by Glen Eisenhardt, received a proclamation from Mayor K.C. Zuber at the start of the Dec. 19 meeting.

“I just wanted to say thank you for your encouragement and support,” Morris said. “And for all the support I’ve received over the years, especially to my wife and family.”
