
A Strongsville native who spent three years on the menβs basketball staff under Gary Waters at Cleveland State University has been named the head boys basketball coach at
Kevin Sapara, who helped the Cleveland State Vikings earn two postseason berths in his three years on staff, will join the Eagles for the 2012-13 school year.
βKevin joined our staff during our first year at Cleveland State and played an integral part of helping us build the program,β Waters said. βHe has a lot of basketball knowledge and will be an outstanding addition at Avon High School.β

Avon Athletic Director Erich Frombach said Sapara has significant experience both as a coach and a player.
βIβm really excited for Kevin,β Frombach said. βHe has great experience, and has had some great mentors. Most importantly heβs a really good person who cares about kids.β

Following his stint at Cleveland State, Sapara was the head basketball coach at Claymont High School in Uhrichsville, Ohio.
Sapara is a 2000 graduate of and a 2005 graduate of Muskingum University with a degree in speech communications. He lettered twice in basketball for the Muskies and Hall of Fame coach Jim Burson.
He also earned his masterβs degree from Cleveland State in 2009.
Saparaβs confirmation is pending school board approval on June 26.

The district has arranged a player/parent meeting for boys interested in playing basketball on Friday, June 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the Avon High School Auditorium. It will provide an opportunity for parents and students to meet Sapara.
