Sheffield Lake, Bay Village Fire Departments Get $200K Grant

The money will provide needed equipment or training to fire departments in both cities.

SHEFFIELD LAKE, OH — The Bay Village and Sheffield Lake fire departments will each get part of a $200,000 grant from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The money will be used for protective equipment, training and aupplies.

Sheffield Lake's fire department will get $64,762. Bay Village Fire will get $137,048.

The AFG program gives grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations. The program has existed since 2001, helping numerous departments since its inception.

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, whose 9th district encompasses both communities, announced the grants on Thursday.

“Our firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line to protect people and property every day. Federal support for first responders helps us fulfill our nation’s promise to these public servants,” said Kaptur.

“This crucial federal assistance for the Bay Village and Sheffield Lake Fire Departments will help our community firefighters stay safe and protect our citizens from harm's way. The Assistance to Firefighters program is a helping hand to our cities and towns. As a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I will continue to fight to ensure our communities in Northern Ohio are positioned to get the help they need to properly equip first responders," she added.
