Sheffield Lake Walking Trail Gets $225K Grant From State
The Lincoln Nature Trail will connect the Sheffield Reservation to Lake Road.
SHEFFIELD LAKE, OH —A $225,000 grant has been awarded for the construction of Lincoln Trail in Sheffield Lake. The trail will be on the east end of the city, running from Oster Road to Lake Road.
The grant was awarded Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The city first applied for funding for the project in January 2018. State Rep. Joe Miller, a Democrat from Amherst, announced the receipt of the grant, two years after the first request for assistance.
“Lincoln Trail is a significant step towards increasing connectivity in our region,” said Rep. Miller. “This generous state grant will create new opportunities for residents to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.”

The Lincoln Nature Trail will be nearly one-mile long and will link the Lorain County Metro Parks' Sheffield Reservation to Lake Road. The Clean Ohio Trail Funds will help design, engineer and construct the path. The city of Sheffield Lake will also contribute funding to the project.
Funding for the grant comes from ODNR's Clean Ohio Fund, which is used to support Ohio's natural and urban places. The fund has done 14 rounds of grants to boost hiking, biking and walking trails throughout the Buckeye State.
