Sick Children Will Get To Become Superheroes In Avon
The city is cosponsoring a heartwarming event that lets children overcoming illness and adversity become live-action superheroes for a day.

AVON, OH — Comic books have never been hotter. Superheroes dominate the box office every other month, and caped crusader merchandise flies off shelves. On September 8, superheroes will get a heartwarming upgrade. Children overcoming illness and adversity in Avon will get to take part in a live-action "virtual comic book."
The hopefully costumed children will have to jump into action to capture some dastardly supervillains and free iconic superheroes. Local celebrities will take part in the action, including Dawn Kendricks, from WKYC, who will play Lois Lane; and Tim Misny, who will play Lex Luthor.
Approximately 40 superheroes and supervillains will be available for family photos after the "virtual comic book." Admission to the event is free, but families are asked to bring nonperishable food items or school supplies that will be donated to local charities.

The event will take place near the Avon Aquatic Facility, 36265 Detroit Road, and will start just after 12:30 p.m. If the weather turns nasty and refused to cooperate, the event will be moved to Heritage Elementary, 35575 Detroit Road, in Avon.
The "virtual comic book" is a collaboration between the city of Avon and "Super Heroes to Kids in Ohio," a nonprofit. The organization is not associated with Marvel, Disney, DC or any other comic book company, the city said.
