Sick Raccoon Spotted In Avon Lake: Police Blotter

The animal was tracked throughout the city, until it wandered into a backyard filled with peanut shells and bird feed.

AVON LAKE, OH — Callers reported seeing a sick raccoon on Avon Point. Police located the animal and followed it around the city. The raccoon headed to Greenbriar Drive, where it went to the backyard of a home. Police said they saw a large pile of peanut shells and bird food stored in the yard.

The owner of the home was cited for allowing nuisance conditions to fester. Reports of sick raccoons have also been noted throughout Northeast Ohio, with Highland Heights Police confirming two cases of distemper in the local raccoon population.

Missing Person, Feb. 20 — Residents reported that their 75-year-old father, with dementia, had gone missing. Luckily, the man's son found him walking in Sheffield Lake and drove him home, safe.

OVI, Feb. 20 — Police arrested an Avon Lake man after he drove his car into a tree. The man was found to be intoxicated and was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Identity Theft, Feb. 23 — Someone hacked a woman's debit account and began making withdrawals in Georgia.

Suspicious Activity, Feb. 26 — An unidentified man walked into a resident's house uninvited. He was confronted by the resident, began asking questions about landscaping and then bolted, police said.
