Small Fire Set At Avon Lake Play Space

AVON LAKE, OH - Another week, another fire in Avon Lake. This time a small blaze was set at the Avon Lake Play Space near the playground. Read on for more information on that incident and others from last week.

Animal Complaint, April 10 - A loose dog charged at a man riding his bicycle near the Avon Lake High School football stadium on April 10. The shock of the approaching animal frightened the man and caused him to fall from his bike. Police are searching for the loose dog's owner.

Dead on Arrival, April 11 - Police were sent to Mull Avenue for reports of a dead body. The subject was deceased when police and EMS arrived on the scene. The 79-year-old resident was taken to Busch Funeral Home in Avon Lake.

Possession of a Controlled Substance, April 11 - A 2002 white Pontiac Grand Prix was stopped by police for several lane violations while driving on Avon Belden Road. As a result of the stop, the driver was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, cracked windshield, and excessive speed. The front seat passenger was cited for possession of marijuana.

Theft, April 11 - A juvenile's cell phone was stolen out of his locker while he was at lacrosse practice on April 11. Another juvenile's cell phone was also stolen from the locker room at the same time. Police are investigating the incident.

OVI, April 14 - Officers spotted a beige 1999 Buick Regal swerving while driving on Walker Road. Police initiated a traffic stop. As a result, a 63-year-old Sheffield Lake man was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence, having an excessive BAC, and for failure to maintain marked lanes.

Criminal Damaging, April 15 - A small fire was set at the Avon Lake Play Space playground. Minimal damage was done to the park seating. Police do not know when the fire was set and has no suspects at this time.
