SprayGround Will Be Open Saturday, Sunday

The SprayGround at the will open for two days  this weekend (May 19 and 20) Recreation Director Gary Gerrone said today. There will be no admission fee. 

The pre-season announcement comes as a result of “both the dedicated and efficient work of Avon Lake’s Recreation and Service departments” and a weather forecast  for temperatures in the low to mid 80s.

“Our SprayGround is ready, and apparently so is the weather, so we are going to open it up this weekend,” Gerrone said.  

The SprayGround is fenced-off, and operates independently from the main swimming areas of the pool. This allows the SprayGround to be opened beyond the pool’s regular swim hours. The SprayGround can then, at times, operate without an admission fee as will be the case this weekend.

It also means that when the SprayGround is open when the main pool is not, that the pool’s restrooms may not be available and this will also be the case this weekend.

Gerrone saidis not necessary this weekend.

The SprayGround is a series of randomly spraying water fountains best enjoyed by toddlers and preteens, and their parents. A concrete ‘pool’ deck, and spacious border of grass, allow for additional recreation and relaxation opportunities. 

“There will not be any staff at the SprayGround this weekend, but new this year we will be providing staff at the SprayGround during the summer swim season,” Gerrone said in a press release.

The SprayGround will be open between noon and 7 p.m. each day this weekend. The Recreation Department  expects the SprayGround and the main pool to open permanently for the season early as May 26, depending on the weather.

Temperatures under 70 degrees will delay the pool opening until June 1 at 4 p.m.  From then on, the main pool, and SprayGround will be fully open.

The pool is located at 32850 Electric Blvd. in Bleser Park.
