State Auditor Award Given To Avon Lake Schools

AVON LAKE, OH — The Avon Lake Schools have received the Auditor of the State Award with Distinction for having a clean audit. To receive the award, district's must meet several stringent criteria for financial filings.

“While a school district’s primary concern is its students, it must also remain accountable to taxpayers,” State Auditor Dave Yost said in a press release from his office. “Accurate record keeping is clearly a priority for these districts, and I am proud to present them with this award.”

To receive the award, the Avon Lake schools had to meet the following criteria:

• The district must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office in the form of a CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report);
• The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned costs;
• The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to:

* Ethics referrals
* Questioned costs less than $10,000
* Lack of timely report submission
* Reconciliation
* Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit
* Findings for recovery less than $100
* Public meetings or public records

The important work they do every day is paramount to the success of Avon Lake students, staff, schools, and district. Without Autumn Reed and her staff’s dedication to serving our community as good stewards of our tax dollars, we would not be able to offer the high quality educational opportunities that lead to success for all our students.”
