State Trooper Hit Repeatedly In The Face During Elyria Assault
The trooper was later sent to a hospital for injuries the Ohio State Highway Patrol described as "serious."

ELYRIA, OH — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was hit repeatedly in the face Thursday morning after responding to a service call. The suspect, a 44-year-old Elyria man, that attacked the trooper has been arrested.
A call to the Ohio Highway Patrol came in at about 7:15 a.m. on Thursday. A trooper was sent to check on the well-being of a pedestrian that was seen walking on Diagonal Roal, near Whitehead Road. The trooper saw the suspect walking just outside the village of LaGrange.
When the trooper approached, the 44-year-old got angry and confrontational. The situation escalated until the suspect began hitting the trooper in the face. The two struggled for several minutes until additional officers arrived and forced the suspect into custody.

The trooper was taken to a local hospital for injuries that the Highway Patrol described as "serious, but non-life threatening."
The suspect has been charged with felonious assault and is being held at the Lorain County Jail.

The LaGrange Police Department, Lorain County Sheriff's Office and LaGrange Fire and EMS provided back-up and assistance during the incident. The Highway Patrol says they're still investigating the assault.
