Suspected Marijuana Residue Found In Avon Lake High Backpack

A teacher reportedly found a backpack with a mason jar and a scale. The jar appeared to have marijuana remnants inside, police records said.

AVON LAKE, OH — A teacher at Avon Lake High School found a mason jar with what appeared to be marijuana residue inside a backpack. There was also a scale inside the backpack, according to police reports obtained by Patch.

The backpack was found in the weight room of the high school. The teacher looked inside the bag to see if he could identify who it belonged to, instead he found the suspected marijuana residue.

Staff were able to identify who the bag belonged to, police said. The student's parents were contacted and the incident was handled within the school. No criminal charges have yet been filed, police said.

The backpack was turned over to Avon Lake Police on Thursday, October 11, records indicate. Police are disposing of the marijuana contents.

A spokesperson for Avon Lake Schools did not return multiple requests for comment on this story.
