Suspected Narcotics Found In Avon Lake Student's Truck: Police
During a safety drill held at the high school, a police K9 reacted to a student's vehicle, leading to a police search.

AVON LAKE, OH — An Avon Lake High School student was charged for drug possession after police K9s reacted to his vehicle during a safety drill. School officials reportedly found narcotics in the student's truck.
On Tuesday, Avon Lake High was running a school-wide safety drill. Police officers and K9 units from police departments around Avon Lake were invited to participate. While on the school grounds, one of the police dogs reacted to a pickup truck parked in the north lot.
An Avon Lake High administrator found the student that had driven the truck and searched the vehicle. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found and then turned over to officers, according to police records.

The student, an 18-year-old, has been charged in Avon Lake Municipal Court with possession of a controlled substance, a felony. The student also faces a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia. A not guilty plea has been entered on that charge, according to court records.
A court-appointed attorney has been assigned to the case and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 13.
