Avon Carjacking Suspect Crashes in Westlake

Two suspects are in custody after a Ford Taurus was reportedly carjacked in Avon and subsequently crashed into another vehicle in Westlake, this morning. 

According to a release from "At 6:43AM this date, reported a Ford Taurus taken in a carjacking in Avon was last seen on Detroit Rd. near Bassett Rd. That vehicle crashed into a Ford pickup driven by a 54-year-old Westlake man at that intersection. The male suspect fled on foot and forced his way into a nearby apartment; he fought with Westlake PD officers there, was tasered, and was taken to St. John Medical Center by the Westlake Fire Department. He is in the custody of Avon police. The pickup driver was also transported to St. John Medical Center for face, back, and arm injuries."

was placed on lockdown after a second male ran from officers at the intersection at 7:22 a.m. He was arrested by Westlake Police at 9:12 a.m.near the Hunters Chase apartment complex on Detroit Road. His identity is uncertain, but he claims to be a juvenile. Preliminary findings are that he may be an accomplice of the other suspect and may have been in Westlake trying to find his partner in crime after dumping another vehicle that was stolen in Cleveland. That vehicle was turned over to Cleveland police at the scene.

Bassett School was given the "all-clear" at 9:15 a.m. Multiple police agencies assisted at the incident, including Rocky River, North Olmsted, and North Ridgeville."
