Much of Northeast Ohio's coast is under a Beach Hazards Statement on Sunday, meaning swimming in the waters of Lake Erie could be dangerous.

"A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when swimming risks exist from a combination of wind and large waves including rip currents and longshore currents," the National Weather Service said. "These swimming risks can create life-threatening conditions even for good swimmers. Follow the instruction of local authorities or stay out of the water."

The National Weather Service is specifically worried about the possibility of high waves and strong currents pushing swimmers around.

The Beach Hazards Statement is in place for Ashtabula Lakeshore, Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain. The statement went into effect at 8 a.m. and will remain in place until at least 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Forecasts show a possibility of thunderstorms throughout the day on Sunday, though they're most likely to occur after 11 a.m. The skies should clear and calm by Monday, with little chance of storms until the middle-of-the-week.
