Thief Hits 4 Unlocked Cars In Avon Lake
The prowler hit the area near Canterbury Road and Belmar Road, the same place a thief hit around Aug. 1.

AVON LAKE, OH — Police are investigating a series of thefts from unlocked cars that occurred between the evening of Aug. 7 and early Aug. 8. The crimes of opportunity occurred after a power outage left a pocket of the city without electricity on Aug. 6 and Aug. 7.
The first reported incidents took place near Belmar and Canterbury Roads. First, someone entered an unlocked Toyota on Belmar Road and stole loose change from the vehicle. Then, a Canterbury Road resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle overnight and stole her wallet.
The second set of incidents occurred on side streets off of Redwood Boulevard. Someone entered an unlocked car on Greenbriar Drive and stole a woman's laptop computer and her prescription medication. Then, a thief hit an unlocked car on Cheyenne Falls, stealing a woman's checkbook from her unlocked vehicle. (To stay up to date on these stories, subscribe to the Patch Avon-Avon Lake newsletter. A week earlier, on Aug. 1, a resident in the area of Canterbury and Belmar videotaped a would-be thief trying to enter his vehicle. That video is below.
Police noted when sharing the video on Facebook that while the male was foiled in his attempt to pilfer from the resident's vehicle in the video, other cars in the area were victimized.
