Too Late to Spray for “Ferocious” Mosquitoes in Walker Road Park
Overabundance of mosquitoes, spiders attributed to wet spring and summer
Avon Lake Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosch said she’s received numerous complaints from residents about a mosquito problem at this year.
Whether anything can be done about that problem is doubtful.
Fenderbosch brought up the issue at a public service meeting Sept. 26. She said she received complaints of the mosquitoes and spider webs in the pavilion at the park and asked the Tom Lescher, to address the issue, including standing water and the option of spraying.
Lescher did not deny there was a mosquito issue at the park, especially in the trees.

“If you get into the treed areas the mosquitoes are bad,” Lescher said. “They are ferocious and hungry and aggressive.”
Lescher said part of the problem was the wet spring and summer.

“Everyone knows we have had a tremendous amount of rain,” Lescher said. “I’m just assuming it’s that.”
Lescher said the park, which is jointly owned by Avon Lake and the city of Bay Village, did not have any drainage problems. He noted that there might be standing water after a rainfall, but it generally drains quickly.
Lescher and Fenderbosch both said it was too late in the season to consider spraying.
