Unborn Child Killed In Car Accident In Lorain, 3 Hurt

An unborn child was killed when an SUV blew past a stop sign on Friday night in Lorain. The mother and two children were also hurt.

LORAIN, OH — An unborn child was killed when an SUV blew past a stop sign and hit a car in Lorain on Friday night, police announced. The driver of the SUV has not been found by police.

"Whoever is responsible for causing this deadly crash should spare this family anymore trauma and turn yourself in," Traffic Commission Kyle Gelenius said. "We have your DNA, we have your cell phones. It's only a matter of time until you're identified and brought to justice. Do the right thing and turn yourself in."

At 11:30 p.m. police were called to a car accident at W. 21st Street and Ashland Avenue. Officers found a badly damaged 2010 Kia Forte, with a pregnant woman and two children inside.

The woman, a 29-year-old from Lorain, was rushed to Mercy Health where she underwent emergency surgery. She is in critical condition. Police said the woman's unborn child died as a result of the crash.

The woman's 10-year-old child was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. Police said the child's current condition is unknown. A 5-year-old child was taken to Mercy Health, was treated and released.

Investigators believe the Forte was hit after an SUV blew past a stop sign and smacked into the car. The driver of the SUV jumped out of their car after the crash and ran off on foot. Police said they've been unable to locate the driver.
