Walker Road Expected to Reopen June 24

With drier weather allowing for more construction this month than last, City Engineering Manager Joe Reitz said Walker Road should be able to re-open June 24.

“We’re pouring the top of the culvert now,” Reitz said.

Construction began April 4.

An unusually wet spring prevented construction from allowing the road to open to one lane, causing business in the area to over a lack of patronage. The construction essentially cut off Walker Road businesses that are west of Moore Road.

Businesses that count on foot traffic, such as and have seen significantly less traffic, as marked detours are sending traffic south on Moore Road and through Avon.

“(Walker) was supposed to open to one lane traffic but it hasn’t yet,” owner Tracy Rafter said in late April.
