Who's Healthier — Avon Or Avon Lake?

A contest being sponsored by University Hospitals wants to find out.

AVON, OH — A new contest wants to settle a burning question — which city's residents are healthier...Avon or Avon Lake? University Hospitals is sponsoring a wellness competition between the two municipalities and each city is looking for a few good participants.

What's at stake? Not much more than bragging rights for the city. The winner will get a Community Challenge plaque. Individuals can win a bit more. The first place point earner will get $300, second place will get $200 and third place will get $100.

It does cost $15 to register for the event. Participants will need to go through an initial health screening, to set levels and goals.

The actual "wellness challenge" won't start until May 23. Points will be awarded to participants for a variety of activities and achievements, including: decreasing weight or cutting inches, attending select health seminars, attending a race or walk and more.

It looks like the challenge will come to a close on August 9. Registration for the event is already open. To register, call 440-988-6801.
