On August 2nd several hundred people will join me on a walk. This is not a short walk, but a 3 day, 60 mile walk to raise awareness for a breast cancer cure. This is a disease that affects both men and women. It also affects their family and friends. This is only one of the charity walks I do. If the cause is good and I can do it, then I walk.
I started walking when I needed to set a goal after having weight loss surgery. About that same time my sister in law was diagnosed with breast cancer. My heart sunk for her. Sharon was 8 months older than me. How could this happen? I decided to walk in the Komen 5K. I made it. Then we started a walking club at work and I became the leader. I see a lot of people out walking, but wonder how many do it to help others.
We all see the signs about walks, but how many actually do them? If you can walk, then why not help someone.
The Komen 3 Day is just over 2 weeks away and I will be posting about what it takes to get ready for this walk. Maybe I will see some of you there.
So why do I do it? Because I can help someone and myself at the same time. I stay active and maybe help fund a cure for someone else.
