$2,500 Cash Prize Available For Greater Cleveland Students
A regional art contest is offering cash prizes for middle and high school students that submit their work.

BEACHWOOD, OH — Thanks to an annual art contest, middle and high school students could find themselves $2,500 richer. The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced the kick-off of the 2018 Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah (Cleveland’s commemoration of the Holocaust & Heroism) Contest Tuesday.
Middle and high school students from throughout Greater Cleveland will be able to write essays or submit works of art for consideration in the contest. This year's theme is “Finding Meaning in the Broken Glass: Reflections on Kristallnacht.”
For those that do not know, Kristallnacht, commonly known as the Night of Broken Glass, saw thousands of Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues destroyed in Nazi Germany. Now, 80 years later, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland wants Northeast Ohioans to reflect on Kristallnacht's meaning and aftermath.

Submissions in the contest will be judged on three metrics: interpretation of the theme, originality and technique. Cash prizes of up to $2,500 will be awarded to winners. Both winners and their schools will be recognized at the Yom Hashoah Commemoration on April 11, 2018 at Park Synagogue Main.
The annual art contest is co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the Kol Israel Foundation.
