$300,000 Grant Awarded To John Carroll University

The money will be used to bolster the school's entrepreneurship program.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH — The Burton D. Morgan Foundation has awarded a $300,000 grant to John Carroll University's Entrepreneurship Program. The money will be used to create a new place for students to explore "ideas in a flexible environment."

“Our goal is to empower John Carroll students to develop new concepts and be collaborative about problem solving, which will be important in their future careers,” says Jacqueline Schmidt, director of the minor in entrepreneurship, in a statement. “Nearly 1,000 current JCU students have taken at least one course offered in our entrepreneurship program since it launched with the support of Burton D. Morgan Foundation in 2015.”

The entrepreneurship program currently has about 300 students enrolled in 15 classes for the fall 2017 semester. (To stay up to date on local stories, subscribe to the Patch Beachwood newsletter. As news breaks and the story develops, you will be the first to receive updates from Patch.)

The new space will called the Burton D. Morgan Foundation Creativity and Entrepreneurship Classroom. A spokesperson for John Carroll University said the space will clock in a 1,540-square feet and will be housed in the Grasselli Library and Breen Learning Center.

The space will be open to both the entrepreneurship program and other classes at the university. All of the furniture in the space will be movable, allowing instructors to reshape the classroom to their needs. There will also be state-of-the-art software present in the classroom.
