Beachwood City Council approves rezoning for Edgewood Road shul (cleveland.com) — Beachwood City Council has rezoned three Edgewood Road lots so Bais Avrohom Shul can replace two homes with a purpose-built synagogue that meets safety and parking standards, ending a years-long dispute. Council also voted to join the regional First CALL mental-health crisis response initiative, giving Beachwood police and fire access to on-call clinicians to support complex emergency calls.
2. 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists named across Ohio: See the complete list of students (cleveland.com) — Several Beachwood High School and Fuchs Mizrachi students have been named 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing them among the top 1% of seniors nationwide. They'll now submit detailed applications, test scores and recommendations to compete for part of $24 million in scholarships, alongside hundreds of other standout Ohio students from schools across the state.
3. Drone Delivery Puts Pharma Packaging to a New Test (healthcarepackaging.com) — Drone delivery of medications is already operating from Cleveland Clinic's Beachwood Administrative Campus, serving patients within about five miles while BayCare in Florida prepares a similar system. The article explains how strict temperature and packaging tests ensure drugs stay safe during flights, and how drones could improve delivery reliability and convenience for patients.
4. Garfield Heights police found car break-in suspects with a drone. Numerous departments use them. (cleveland.com) — Police across Northeast Ohio, including in Beachwood, are increasingly using drones to track suspects, find missing people, and give officers a safer aerial view during dangerous calls. A Garfield Heights case and examples from Strongsville, Bay Village, Mentor and others show how departments balance rapid response with privacy rules, warrants and FAA training requirements as this technology becomes more common.
