Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Beachwood designates former Fairmount Temple site a blight, paving way for demolition (cleveland.com) — Beachwood City Council has officially labeled the former Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple property on Fairmount Boulevard as blighted, clearing the way for demolition while keeping future financing options, including possible TIFs, on the table. City leaders stress no tax abatements are currently planned, even as residents question potential impacts on county services. Council also tightened rules for e-bike and e-scooter riders, including helmet requirements for minors.
2. Teamwork, Friendship and Fresh Leadership (bcomber.org) — Beachwood High's girls soccer team is riding a strong 7-5 season, crediting tight friendships and new head coach Regina Ploplis for their momentum. Players say the former JV coach's experience and support have smoothed the transition after last year's coaching change. The Bison now look to build on their chemistry as they chase another top CVC finish.
3. Northeast Ohio Jewish community gathers to mark three years since Oct. 7 attacks on Israel (wkyc.com) — In Beachwood, a standing-room-only crowd filled the Mandel JCC's Stonehill Auditorium to mark three years since the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, honoring victims and reflecting on the war's toll. Speakers emphasized unity, shared responsibility and hope as attendees received candles bearing victims' names. The gathering highlighted Beachwood's central role in Northeast Ohio's Jewish community life.
4. Man, displeased with service, wants officer to go to store to tell clerk she was rude: Lyndhurst Police Blotter (cleveland.com) — A recent Lyndhurst police blotter includes an incident where a 16-year-old Beachwood girl reported being hit by water balloons outside Starbucks at Legacy Village, leading officers to find drug paraphernalia in a minivan of local teens. Other calls ranged from a man upset over a Subway worker's comment to shoplifting at Nordstrom Rack and a Lyndhurst man found intoxicated on a stranger's porch.
5. Ohio bill would mandate helmets for e-bikes as injuries rise (cleveland.com) — State lawmakers are weighing new rules that would require helmets for all e-bike riders, set age limits for kids, and add registration for faster Class 3 bikes, changes that would apply in Beachwood too. Beachwood Democrat Eric Synenberg is sponsoring the House version, aiming to clarify where and how fast riders can go on paths and sidewalks statewide.
