Beachwood City Council Needs New Member
With Martin Horwitz becoming mayor, the council is short one representative. Residents are being asked to apply for the spot.

BEACHWOOD, OH — Beachwood's new mayor, Martin Horwitz, was sworn in on Monday. He replaced long-time mayor Merle Gorden. Horwitz also gave up his seat as city council president.
With Horwitz's seat now vacant, Beachwood City Council needs a new member. The council has 45 days to fill Horwitz's vacant spot. Residents are being encouraged to apply for the position.
Applications for a spot on city council should include a resume and must be sent to the clerk of council at Beachwood City Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 16. Applicants must be qualified electors and need to have lived in Beachwood for at least one year prior to their appointment.

Horwitz beat Gorden by less than 100 votes in the election. Based on the Board of Election's final tally, Horwitz received 37.65 percent of the vote. Gorden received 36.88 percent of the vote.
That margin isn't tight enough to trigger an automatic recount, however. That would have required a margin of difference of less than .5 percent.
