Beachwood Dog Park Could Open In June 2019

Crews are currently dumping dirt on the proposed Barkwood park site, to rough grade the terrain.

BEACHWOOD, OH — Crews are hard at work on the soon-to-be-open Barkwood dog park, at City Park East on Richmond Road between Shaker Blvd. eastbound and westbound.

Service Director Dale Pekarek told Patch the park could be open as soon as June 2019. His workers are currently dumping and leveling dirt trucked into the area.

"We’ve already staked out like a half acre," he said. "We know that in that space we have to build the site up with dirt. We’re bringing in dirt that we’re getting locally from contractors, for free. Then we spread it. We want all the dirt and rough graded off before the weather breaks."

Once the area is graded off, and a long-awaited spring thaw comes to Ohio, crews will return to work. Workers will need to do a final grade, install fencing, create a water feature, and add in security and utilities.

Pekarek estimates that could take about six or seven months to finish, which is in line with the June opening advertised by the city. A shorter-than-expected winter may shrink the construction timeline. Conversely, a longer-than-expected winter could slow progress considerably.
