Beachwood Schools Closed Due to Power Outage

About half of Beachwood is without power this morning.

BEACHWOOD, OH - Area schools are closed today due to a power outage that may have impacted almost half of the city.

Superintendent Robert Hardis emailed parents this morning, saying four of the district's five schools are currently without power. Many traffic and street lights north of Shaker Boulevard East are currently down. He said that he is uncertain when power will be restored to the area.

"It is not safe to put our students and staff out on the streets this morning, let alone in dark buildings," he said in the statement.

Hardis said he has been told that CEI has arrived at the problematic transformer station but that a fix is not imminent.

First Energy was not able to provide a response to when power might be restored or exactly how many Beachwood customers have been impacted by the outage. Currently, the First Energy website shows that there are only three outages in the city but the website depends on customers reporting their outages to remain up-to-date.
