Beachwood Sends Four Girls to State Track

Versatile Mayfield qualifies in long jump and 4x100- meter relay

At the start of the season, Beachwood track and field coach Willie Smith said that  junior Olivia Mayfield would be a name to remember come June.

Mayfield lived up to her coach's advance billing during the Division II regional meet held at Ravenna yesterday. The talented junior placed third in the long jump competition with a leap of 17-0 and is headed to the state championships in Columbus June 3-4.

Mayfield won the district long jump event and was the fourth seed going into yesterday's competition. She didn't rest on her laurels as she also joined teammates Gabrielle Perryman, Traci Milliner and Kyndal Wilson to make the cut for state in the 4x100-meter relay.

The foursome of Perryman, Mayfield, Milliner and Wilson turned in a time of 49.56 to take third in the regional. The Lady Bison were seeded fourth heading into the event. Even more impressive is the fact that Perryman is a sophomore while Beachwood's other three qualifiers are all juniors. The Lady Bison had the fastest preliminary time in the event with a 49.35 clocking.

Senior Arielle Ginsberg was hoping to advance to Columbus but could not crack the top four in the 800 meters. Ginbserg closed out her high school career with a time of 2:26.48 to finish 11th overall.
