Beachwood Woman Accused Of Bank Fraud, Theft

The woman allegedly forged her dead mother's signature to continue getting Social Security benefits.

BEACHWOOD, OH — A Beachwood woman is being charged with theft of public money and bank fraud in federal court. Daphna Goren is accused of fraudulently using her mother's Social Security Retirement and Survivor's benefits.

Goren's mother died in July 2011. She is accused of converting the funds to her use and continuing to make use of the Social Security benefits. The Department of Justice said the alleged theft resulted in the loss of $91,403 to the Social Security Administration.

To pull off the theft, Goren allegedly forged her mother's signature on TIAA-CREF payment checks. Those checks were then allegedly deposited into Goren's KeyBank account.
