Beachwood Library Celebrates Grand Reopening

Cuyahoga County Public Library Beachwood Branch hosted a celebration to display its renovations

On Saturday, June 10th, Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) celebrated the completion of a $1.1 million renovation of its Beachwood Branch, located at 25501 Shaker Boulevard, on Sunday, June 10th.

Sari Feldman, Cuyahoga County Public Library executive director, spoke to the crowd of approximately 75 guests and customers, “Together, we made a commitment to ensure that county residents have access to excellent library service, and today we are taking yet another step toward fulfilling that commitment with the completion of the Beachwood Branch renovation.”

According to State Representative and Democratic Leader of the House for the 129th Ohio General Assembly, Armond Budish, “Cuyahoga County Public Library’s Beachwood Branch is a vital resource not only for children and families, but for the seniors in our community as well.  I’m pleased that the renovation now makes this building more accessible to seniors and the disabled so they can enjoy all that the library has to offer.” Budish was a guest speaker at the event.

Cuyahoga County Public Library Board of Trustees President Robert W. Varley acknowledged the new features of the renovated Beachwood Branch and announced the dedication the new children and teen areas, made possible by Mort and Iris November, in celebration Debra Ann November.

As part of the celebration, longtime Library supporter and City of Beachwood Mayor, Merle Gorden, presented Cuyahoga County Public Library with a proclamation declaring Sunday, June 10th, 2012 “Beachwood Public Library Grand Reopening Day” in the City of Beachwood.

New features of the renovated Beachwood Branch include: an expanded entryway on the building’s north side; a convenient drive-up window where Library customers may pick-up and drop-off materials; an expanded children’s story time room; and an expanded space for teens. 

Event attendees enjoyed an ice cream social, courtesy of the Friends of the Beachwood Branch Library, plus face painting, games and entertainment.

The renovation of the Beachwood Branch is part of Cuyahoga County Public Library’s Facilities Master Plan, the largest building improvement program in the Library’s history. The Plan consists of priority construction, relocation and renovation projects. It is part of a long-term financial plan adopted by the Library Board that will save more than $4 million annually. The Library is not asking for additional funding from taxpayers to pay for these projects.
