Construction Starting Soon On New Beachwood Fire Station
Fire Station No. 2 will cost $9.7 million in construction costs. The city says construction should be complete in late 2018.

BEACHWOOD, OH - The City of Beachwood announced on its website that it will be spending $9.7 million on a new fire station. The new building is expected to open in late 2018.
Construction on the fire station will start this Spring, the city says. Fire Station 2, the new facility, will be built at the northeast corner of Richmond Road and Park East Drive.
The city says the new station will serve as more than a state-of-the-art fire station. It will also house an emergency operations center, a police and fire training center, and a police and fire dispatch center.

Beachwood officials also said the new facility could accommodate a growing dispatch service. Pepper Pike already uses Beachwood's dispatch services. Beachwood hopes more cities will come aboard and begin using Beachwood dispatch services, creating additional revenue for the city.
In a post from Mayor Merle Gorden and Fire Chief Patrick Kearns on the city's website, the two estimate the new fire station will have a shelf life of 50 years or longer.

"The new station will be a vast improvement over the existing Fire Station 2, which was built at a time when Beachwood was still a volunteer Fire Department. That building is outdated and inefficient," the post said.
