The Container Store Coming to Beachwood

The home and office solutions store will open its first Northern Ohio site at La Place, near Beachwood Place.

BEACHWOOD, OH - La Place has landed its first major tenant since it was purchased by General Growth Properties in 2015. The Container Store, a provider of home and office solutions, will open in the spring of 2017.

General Growth also owns neighboring mall Beachwood Place.

To make room for The Container Store, KA Architecture has designed a new image for the east portion of LaPlace and created plans for raising the roof of the former Borders bookstore.

Construction work at La Place is expected to be on-going through spring 2017.

The Container Store’s footprint will cover about 25,000 square feet utilizing all of the space of the former bookstore plus additional second-floor space. The bookstore remodeling is well underway. Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is the contractor on the project. Interior drawings of the store are expected to be submitted in the near future.

“We’re thrilled that such a key retailer is coming to Beachwood. I’d like to welcome The Container Store, which will be joining many other quality retailers who serve customers in our city,’’ said Mayor Merle S. Gorden, who made the announcement after drawings were submitted to the Building Department to raise the former bookstore’s roof.

The store will have direct access from the parking lot on the south side of the project, as well as access from the enclosed garage and from within the enclosed mall concourse.

Currently, the closest Container Stores are in Columbus, Ohio and in Troy, Michigan
