Serial Bank Robbery Suspects Charged In Northeast Ohio

A couple allegedly robbed four banks and 10 other businesses between late September and mid-October.

CLEVELAND, OH — Two Northeast Ohioans are being charged for a crime spree throughout the region, the FBI and Department of Justice announced on Wednesday. The pair robbed four banks and a series of video game stores and sandwich shops.

Casey Layne Liberty, 30, and Daniel Begin, 32, face a 15-count indictment for armed robberies, U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said.

“This pair went on a month-long crime spree in which they robbed banks and stores to feed their drug habit,” Herdman said. “It’s a miracle no one was killed, and we’re gratified this duo will likely be off the street for years to come.”

Liberty would reportedly wear a disguise while robbing banks and stores, while Begin would play getaway driver. The couple would then take their stolen money and use it to buy drugs and food or pay for hotel rooms, the indictment says.

The couple are being charged for robbing Andover Bank in Conneaut on Sept. 19, Chase Bank in Medina on Sept. 28, First National Bank in Beachwood on Oct. 4 and the Chase Bank in Fairlawn on Oct. 12.
