Free MLK Day Celebration At Maltz Museum

From Maltz Museum: The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage opens its doors at no-cost for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, with live music, crafts and activities, panel discussion, exhibition tours and more. The FREE event, “Hear Our Voices: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration” will be held on January 21, 2019 from 11AM to 5PM at the Museum. “MLK Day is important for us, here at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage,” said Managing Director, David Schafer. “We open our doors for free on this day as a way to honor the iconic civil rights leader and share a message of inclusion. This is a family-friendly event for people of all ages, a way for us to join together to celebrate being upstanders. We hope everyone in our Cleveland community will take part.”

Free and open to the public

This community-wide celebration invites people of all ages and backgrounds to explore how iconic civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and everyday citizens fought against discrimination to change America. From 11am to 5pm, tour the Maltz Museum’s core and special exhibitions while sharing a cause you would fight for with hands-on crafts and activities on this family-friendly day!

At 11am, rock out to the band On the One, comprised of youth enrolled in the Let It Ride — Game Ready 4 Life work-based learning program and their music instructors. They’ll play a signature combination of R&B, funk, soul, and rock, including covers of music greats ranging from James Brown to Jimi Hendrix.

At 1pm, enjoy music from the Evelyn Wright Quartet celebrating the styles of jazz, R&B, and pop. Evelyn has opened for the likes of Mel Torme, Joan Rivers, and Harry Belafonte, among others. See her live at the Maltz!

At 3pm, join in a lively panel discussion on Race, Gender, and the Power to Vote, reflecting on the historical legacy of Dr. King’s work on voting as a civil right and discussing contemporary issues around access to the ballot and voting rights in our society today with panelists:
