"I'm 42 years old. I've got too much invested in this city,” Berns told Beachwood Patch just minutes after he lost his seat late on November 8, 2011. “I guess you could throw my hat in the ring right now."

Berns joins several other civil servants who took their oaths of office at Monday’s council meeting.

Longtime council member Saul Eisen was voted Council president, and Horwitz took a seat, thanking his family for their support during his campaign and adding that he is excited to serve.

“We face the continuing challenge of being the best city we can to the 12,000 residents who call Beachwood home and the 100,000 workers and visitors who come to our city each day. I look forward to working with my fellow councilmen and mayor to work on these issues and more.”

Horwitz was given his oath of office by his daughter Gayle, a federal attorney.
