Local Program Expands to Empower Girls Across Northeast Ohio
The Girls on the Run program, which inspires girls to boldly pursue their dreams, is expanding to empower more girls across Northeast Ohio!

Girls on the Run of Greater Summit announced that it is changing its name to Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio, as it looks to expand its vision of inspiring young girls to boldly pursue their dreams.
Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching life skills to young girls through dynamic, interactive lessons, started with its first team of 12 girls in 2007. Since then, the organization has grown to cultivate the spirit and sense of self for young girls throughout Summit, Medina, Cuyahoga, Portage and Lorain counties. In May 2015, the non-profit saw more than 900 girls participate in the confidence-building curriculum.
“We feel that it’s important that our name reflect diversity of the girls we mentor throughout the five counties where we participate,” explained Girls On The Run Council Director, Robyn Cutler about the decision to revise its name.

Along with its change in name, the organization plans to add a second course to its 5K celebration. “We’re also excited to announce a second course for this fall,” revealed Cutler. “Not only does this offer a new challenging course for the girls, it also brings our five counties a little closer together as we rotate in a northern and southern county race venue.”
The Akron-based organization intends to alternate the 5K locations for its spring and fall runs to encourage girls to meet new people, go to new places and positively impact more young teens.

“We are really looking forward to extending our Girls on the Run family,” shared Cutler. “We’ve been very fortunate to have the support of the community. Our local organizations have seen the value of this program, which comes at a point in a girl’s life just when she needs to tap into her inner strength the most, and we’re looking forward to building those same relationships in the northern counties as well.”
