Local student accepted to join "People to People" ambassador program

Shayle Worthington looking forward to traveling to Europe and experiencing different cultures this summer

Shayle Worthington, a junior at Nexus Academy of Cleveland was recently accepted to join the “People to People” as a Student Ambassador and will travel to Europe this summer to experience different cultures and customs.

Through the “People to People” program, students from grades 5-12 have the opportunity to visit different countries, meet with students from the region and take part in hands-on activities and service programs that will expand their global awareness and prepare them for future success.

“I am looking forward to this unique opportunity to experience a different part of the world and learn about different cultures,” Worthington said. “I feel so fortunate to be able to have this experience and I appreciate the different opportunities that it may offer later when it comes to college or service in the military.”

Worthington, who lives in Maple Heights, will be taking part in the European Odyssey program where she will spend 20 days travelling through France, Italy and Greece. During that time she will get to see the Eiffel Tower, the architecture in Greece and Rome and works of art including Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. In addition to those classic sights of Europe she will also get to experience floating in a Venetian gondola, strolling the streets of the Roman Forum, joining a Greek dance and creating lasting memories from spending time with new European friends in their homes and schools.

To cover the cost of her trip, Worthington is hoping to raise the money by hosting a variety of fundraisers and is seeking donations from local organizations. She has also created a “GoFundMe” page (http://www.gofundme.com/europeanodyssey5) to collect individual donations.
