Parking Lot Madness: 2 Arrested After Lying To Beachwood Police

Police said a car accident led to two people being arrested for falsification and leaving the scene of an accident.

BEACHWOOD, OH — A car crash in the parking lot of Beachwood Place Mall led to a tangle of lies and disputes on Tuesday evening, police said. Officers were called to the mall's parking area at about 5:40 p.m. for a reported car crash. When they arrived they met a woman who claimed to be driving the car at the time of the accident. Except, police said, she actually wasn't.

Police believe the woman was covering for another person, a man, that had been driving the car without a license. After the accident, the man had walked into the mall, leaving the woman with the car, the police report said. Officers learned about the man's involvement and located him inside the shopping complex. He was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.

As for the woman that allegedly covered for him, police said that when the fraud was discovered they tried to arrest the woman for falsification. Instead of going peacefully, the woman resisted police as they tried to handcuff her. She's being charged with falsification and resisting an officer, police said.
