Risky Online Business Exchanges: Safe Transaction Zone Created In Beachwood
The city has created a space where residents and others can go to conduct product exchanges for legally purchased online goods.

BEACHWOOD, OH — The city has established a Safe Transaction Zone, where residents and others can conduct product exchanges for legal online purchases. The new zone is the Beachwood Police parking lot, 2700 Richmond Rd. The area is under constant video surveillance and a sign will designate the area as a Safe Transaction Zone.
While the area is labelled a Safe Transaction Zone, don't think the city is absorbing any liability for exchanges that occur at the location. The city clearly stated on its website that it would assume no liability for people or entities using the location to conduct business.
“Even at a Police Department things can happen. It is important to always be aware of your surroundings. Using this area is safer than a random location or having the buyer go to your residence,” said Police Chief Gary Haba. in a statement.

Beachwood is not the first east side suburb to create a Safe Transaction Zone. Shaker Heights opened its own on May 4, 2017. Shaker's zone is actually located in the police department lobby and is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Shaker Heights Police also noted that they assume no liability for exchanges gone wrong.
“People are doing more and more shopping online. This service allows for a safe place to make an exchange,” stated Mayor Merle S. Gorden said in a statement.
