Senior Standouts: Jake Weiss
Whether it's offense or defense, Weiss shines brightest under the lights

Jake Weiss’ biggest game almost didn’t happen. His junior year he missed part of the day at school and wound up going to the hospital because he was sore all over, but he made it back in time for the game against Wickliffe.
Road football games always brought out the best in Weiss because they were usually under the lights, something Beachwood’s stadium doesn’t have.
“The other team’s crowd would talk smack,” Weiss said. “I just wanted to prove everyone wrong and shut them up.”

He did so with 13 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles at defensive end. Weiss is also a standout wide receiver, honorable mention All-State and first team All-District, as well as an outfielder for the Bison baseball team.
Weiss also comes up big off the field, placing in the top 10 at the , just missing the cut for nationals. He and his partner, , had 30 minutes to present certain roleplay scenarios to a panel of judges. One required the pair to budget an advertising and marketing plan for a mini-bus prototype. “It always seemed like an interesting class,” Weiss said. “The opportunities we had were better than just sitting in a regular class.”
Weiss and his classmates also got to work with the Scientific Skin Institute and gave input on how the company should market their product to teenagers in addition to designing other marketing endeavors.
Weiss took a different approach with his senior project and utilized it to help his athletic career. He shadowed Beachwood’s athletic trainer learning how to care for and avoid injuries. He will also play in the annual East-West All-Star game on June 17 at 7 p.m. hosted by Baldwin Wallace College against other Cleveland-area football standouts.
Weiss will take his interest in business and marketing in addition to his football and baseball skills down the road to John Carroll University in the fall.
“I knew I was close to home, but when I was there I felt as if I was somewhere else,” Weiss said. “I knew from the moment I stepped on campus I wanted to go there.”
